In my redesign, I've significantly enhanced the Friends system.

The existing PC version of the Epic Game Store's Friends system had room for improvement in terms of functionality and visual presentation. Strong social features can encourage users to make more friends and engage more with the Epic Game Store.

My enhanced Friends system lets users check friends' online status, see in-game activities, send/receive friend requests, and share voice, text, or attachments conveniently. The visual design is now more user-friendly.

Design Process

Background: market perspective & users perspective

From a market competition perspective:

Epic Games Store has firmly established itself as a major player in the PC gaming market since its launch in 2018. It has achieved this by offering exclusive titles, free games, generous discounts, and by capitalizing on the success of "Fortnite." However, when it comes to a mobile app, Epic has fallen behind its primary competitor, Steam, which boasts a fully functional mobile app.

From a user's perspective:

The absence of a dedicated Epic Games Store mobile app has been a source of frustration for users.

As illustrated by a personal experience during the 2019 Black Friday Sale, I had hoped to swiftly purchase discounted games through a mobile app, only to discover that no such app existed. This inconvenience sparked the idea to design a mobile app for the Epic Games Store.

Research

This research serves a dual purpose:

Firstly, it aims to gain valuable insights from users, delving into their genuine opinions and expectations.

Secondly, it involves a comprehensive analysis of the existing features of Epic Game Store.

The findings from these surveys play a crucial role in validating initial ideas and providing vital guidance for the subsequent design phases.

"Ever since my junior high school days, gaming has been my primary way to relax during leisure hours. As one of the early Chinese users of Epic Store, I've been eagerly awaiting a mobile app that allows me to perform various operations, even when I can't access my computer easily."

Based on the results of offline interviews and online surveys, I designed the Persona and User Journey Map.

Information Architecture

Drawing from the insights gathered during both online and offline interviews, as well as the created Persona and User Journey Map, I developed the information architecture to effectively organize, structure, and label the content.
